Jeannot Bruce

Jeannot Bruce documents the tragedy of Senegalese refugees by collecting driftwood and bits of fishing boats that have broken apart at sea. Thousands of refugees leave the shores of Senegal in overloaded fishing boats. Many are never heard from again – the sea has claimed them. Each piece of driftwood symbolizes a lost soul. The refugee’s dream of prosperity is counterbalanced by an empty boat suspended in the void.
